What is the role of Recreation Therapy in Mental Health?Recreation and leisure are essential tools when it comes to fostering positive mental health. Recreation Therapy assists individuals to maintain self-determination/autonomy, empowerment/ resistance, social inclusion, and community integration. It also provides a means to teach individuals stress-coping/healing mechanisms and ways to better manage their illness.
Recreational Therapy at Glamorgan Care CentreThe Recreation Department at Glamorgan Care Centre strive to improve and maintain the following:
· Help residents avoid negative choices by exploring better ways to use their time. · Help residents foster positive, meaningful, and purposeful experiences. · Help residents regain confidence. · Improve residents’ social skills. · Help residents improve their mood. · Help develop tools that residents can use to better handle their psychosocial factors such as anxieties, delusions, anger, difficulty coping, agitation, and depression. · Help residents who are experiencing low motivation engaging in their therapies. · Keep residents connected to their community. · Encourage residents to embrace life.
